But, what does that mean? What IS really the meaning of portable? Surely, it cannot just be the fact that you can compile the same code without compiler errors, on 2 different platforms. No. It isnt as portable as we would hope. Of course it compiles and runs fine, without any problems, but thats not all. One thing you really should be aware of, is the font management in QT for Windows, and QT for Mac or Linux. When you create a label, and you give it a font size of 12pt, for example, in Windows it will display ok. But in Mac the font will be tiny, compared to to what you wanted it to be. Excel processing scripts: Watch your step! http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/244 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/244 Thu, 19 May 2011 18:08:08 +0200 We have recently developed an Excel analyzer for one of our clients, which processes huge excel product catalogues, groups them in categories, exports their images, and saves in a Joomla! Virtuemart e-shop module as products. The script is based on PHP and two of the common php-to-excel classes. One reads the data, and the other reads the graphics. We used that way because the script that reads the images needs a lot of memory on the host computer and since we repeatedly read data over an over again (as the sheets progress) we don't need to read the images every time. Broken UTF-8 encoding for Greek characters? Here is a solution in PHP. http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/240 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/240 Fri, 29 Apr 2011 11:47:52 +0200 Most of us have been in this situation. You get an old database export, which needs to be re-imported to a new system, and you find out that its Greek encoding is completely messed up! Thats a common problem especially from old databases where their collation is latin1 and encoding is iso-8859-7 whereas new systems have utf8_bin collation and UTF-8 encoding. Hmm... there needs to be a solution for this, the data can't just be gone! 16th ITA Workshop Online Portal http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/230 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/230 Fri, 15 Apr 2011 12:34:16 +0200 We built the new portal for the 16th ITA Workshop in Greece, http://www.ita-itw2011.gr/ together with New Event Generation, using Drupal and a custom application, both working together with an online registration system that is responsible for particapants registration. Our view of Zoneminder http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/227 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/227 Wed, 13 Apr 2011 10:15:51 +0200 In 2011, we have worked on various projects, others exciting, and others not so...exciting. Something that always intrigued us, is making CCTV applications and installations, with SMS alerts, e-mail alerts, remote Internet interfaces, and so on. As we rely heavily on open-source software, both for the benefit of our clients, in terms of pricing, and also because we believe in and support the open-source movement (we have been part of Linux distributions and others since 2002), we have selected ZoneMinder as our CCTV software. And thats where it gets tricky... ZoneMinder is an amazing (or should I say, used to be) piece of software. Unfortunately the latest stable version is 2 years old, and that means its not entirely supported actively. But oh well. Its good as it is. mediart.gr - the perfect news portal http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/213 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/213 Wed, 30 Mar 2011 11:10:04 +0200 We are happy to announce the completion of our newest project, mediart.gr! After Christmas, we will be changing its theme to something more ... practical. Stay tuned! CubeSuite -> ThemeChef.com http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/67 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/67 Fri, 16 Oct 2009 11:06:11 +0200 cubesuite.com was changed to themechef.com. And when i say changed, i mean totally! Names, domains, the lot. We had to do this because there is already an application with a similar name to cubesuite and it isnt correct to have the same name. Also, we fancy the new name more! We will be adding some new templates now too! Thank you for your support! CubeSuite WAP deployed http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/61 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/61 Mon, 28 Sep 2009 15:03:37 +0200 The CubeSuite Website Administration Panel has been released and CubeSuite administration development will freeze for a while as we bugfix and perform maintainance on the core system. That means that we will release all its features and then work on bugfixing and extending, when it is needed! Last phase before full deployment is to test the user selectable backgrounds and the pre-configured blocks (like latest blogs, latest images, etc) All will be tested and ready soon! Until then, Re.Compile will be engaged in designing a network infrastructure and client management software for a company in Brazil, and there will be considerable progress (perhaps a release) in the iPhon Changing themes... http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/47 http://www.re-compile.com/blog/9/47 Thu, 17 Sep 2009 00:57:09 +0200 We thought it was about time to change the CubeSuite.com portal theme to something more appropriate!
